About Me
Hi! I’m Lisa and I am so happy you have stopped by! I am an interior designer and interior design instructor, a life-long student, and a Diet Mountain Dew addict. I have a passion for helping people make their home a sanctuary from the stress of the outside world, and helping create memorable celebrations without a memorable price tag!
My Background
I got my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Human Environmental Sciences with a focus on Textiles. For the first 15 years of my career, I worked in textile marketing and design. Living near High Point, NC (the furniture capital of the world!), I decided it would be wise to shift my focus to interior design, so I returned to school and received my degree in interior design. I always loved school, so it wasn’t a difficult decision to make! After that, I started working at my father’s architectural firm where I work on commercial projects. Most of our projects are government and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). We have also worked on renovating churches and some historical buildings. Our current venture is an Active Adult Community to complement our CCRC.

When I was asked to teach online Textiles at the school I attended for Interior Design, I jumped at the chance. It is a part of my career that I have truly enjoyed. I love not only teaching but also learning from my students. I would never have arrived at this point without their youthful and enthusiastic insight. I added Interior Products, History of Architecture and Interiors, and Interior Design Business Practices to my repertoire, and also taught 2 sections of Residential Design. I believe that combining this experience with my work experience has given me valuable insight as to what people would enjoy in terms of content.
Why I Started This Blog
I love most things creative – especially paper and textile crafts, DIY home décor, and jewelry. I started this blog because I have always encouraged my students to start a blog to document their progress and accomplishments at school and in life, and one day a student asked to see my blog (ummm…). For some reason, I always thought of a blog as being for the younger, techie types. I have since realized everyone has something to say, and I might even have a thing or two to teach (and quite a bit to learn)!
About This Site
I set up this site with categories which I plan to populate as I am able. The categories are as follows:
Interior Design Topics and Trends – General info on what’s going on in the design world, and discussion about relevant topics.
Interior Design 101 – Information that might be of interest to interior design students, interior designers who want a “refresher course” in some of the topics from interior design school, or people who just love interior design. Topics I intend to cover include the history of interiors and architecture, textiles, product selection and color theory among other possibilities. I teach all of these classes, and I may even bring in a guest author or two to help me out!
Celebrations and Events – I love a good party, and great design is part of the package, in my opinion! I have learned some tricks that will help you get the maximum impact out of a minimum investment, and I will even give some direction for those who want to do over-the-top dramatic events!
Thanks for visiting! I look forward to hearing from you in the future – and feel free to send me suggestions, questions, and any design issues you struggle with! If I don’t know the answer, I probably know who to ask! So welcome, enjoy yourself and stay awhile. And say “Hi”…I would love to hear from you!
